When the body moves, the soul can be healed.
"Movement Medicine" is the idea that stories can be told & stories can be healed through dance, performance & interactive explorations between performer & observer.
Have you ever just closed your eyes on the dance floor & felt the energy of your surroundings; the music, the lights, the people around you, just transport you to another place? Have you ever experienced the catharsis of dancing your heart out all night at a show or festival?
We have all experienced the medicine that movement can bring, and our collective hopes to facilitate a container in which this medicine can be felt.
We are a collective of femme story-tellers, prop-manipulators & performance artists. Our costumes are made by female designer, Katie at Unalome Designs and our masks are made by Alyssa, a multi-media artist and designer. Through this collaboration, we have experienced the true meaning of sisterhood and what it feels like when femmes choose to empower each other. Our goal is to be a 100% femme performance collective. We are still working on securing a music producer who will work exclusively on this project.
When it comes to femmes, performance art is viewed primarily as a representation of our sexuality or sex-appeal. Femme performers are often dressed in uncomfortable, revealing costumes, made to dance in impractical high heels & platforms. We are often required to cake on a ton of makeup & shave our body hair to fit the part.
The Movement Medicine Collective is challenging the way that femme performers are seen in the performance art world. We are using this platform to showcase not only the sexy, but the raw, unapologetic, fierce, ugly & emotional aspects of being femme.
Depending on the logistics of the event or performance; whether it be outside or inside, large or small, during the day or night, our performance will morph to suit the needs of that space. We offer different packages or single act performances. Please contact us for more information or to book us for an event.
We Offer:
Sound Healing – Live drumming/instruments, singing bowls, chanting & spoken word.
Choreographed Movement – We create some choreographed pieces working with timing, formations & unified order to captivate the audience.
Improvised Movement – We find that the most emotional, and sometimes provocative performance happens through improvisation between performers & audience members.
Ritual Storytelling – May include embodying animal spirits, invoking elementals or using sacred geometry, shapes and numbers to tell a story.
5-Sense Activation – We offer fruit platters to be served to the audience enticing the sense of taste. The burning of incense or use of high quality essential oils engage the sense of smell. Sound healing & ritual storytelling activate the senses of sound & sight. Interactive improvisation engages sense of touch. This is a full body experience.
